Sustainability on Campus
There’s a lot of talk in the property management world these days about the importance being green. Frankly, it’s about time. Commercial office buildings consume massive amounts of heat and light energy and have enormous carbon footprints. We at KRP earnestly believe that all public and private-sector building owners should consider ways to green their properties.
While others are talking about sustainability, we’re actually doing something. The KRP Green Plan is our own expression of sustainability. Simple, rigorous and customized, our plan is unique to KRP Properties. It introduces metrics and targets that draw on our strengths and identify our weaknesses, and contains action-oriented items that demand regular attention and oversight.
Why go this route when off-the-shelf programs offer proven benefits? Because we believe that a one-size-fits all approach seldom works perfectly. We want a plan that is uniquely ours and which tests us thoroughly. We want to challenge ourselves as building operators—and our tenants as responsible entities—to work together to meet newer, more ambitious targets for sustainability. And we want to offer a higher level of care for the environment, just as we believe in offering a higher standard of care for our tenants and their employees.
Get Greener Today
If your company wants to do more for the environment, or needs a leg up to get started, we can help.
We’re committed to making our properties as green as possible, but we can’t do it alone. Sustainability is a partnership and we are all stewards of the environment. Although we as property owners and managers can make all the improvements we want to our building envelopes, our lighting and electrical systems and our building systems controls, we need your help to make your interior tenant space as green as possible.
Getting started is easy. Even small changes can make a big difference in helping green our environment. Launch an office recycling program. Encourage employees to compost their food waste, turn off lights when they leave common rooms, or reduce the brightness settings on their computer monitors. Small changes or large, they all add up over the long run.
If you’ve already put these kinds of programs in place, keep up the great work! And why not consult with our KRP Properties Green Team to build a plan for even greater savings?
